Where are you Shannon?

I feel hollow inside.

The escapes of books, music, and sports seem like temporary distractions of a larger inevitability.

There is something inside me that wants to get out, and I do not know of an outlet for it.

Thank you

The Human condition is a sea of ever-changing jigsaw puzzle pieces. Holes at some ends, additional bits in other ends - and they constantly change.

This story, like many other stories, is inspired by a girl.

For years now, her very name stood out in my eye's mind.
I felt a void deep within.

Her actions were honest and wise beyond her years - I could not understand why I felt so dumb every time I approached her.

I wondered why God would be so cruel as to instill in me so much love for someone unobtainable.
So I asked Him.

God answered me last night.

I woke up from a dream. It was an odd dream. It was a dream like any other dream I expect others have had except, it was my memory which had the dream.

The easiest way to remember is through emotion. Those quick impulses leave a deep mark on the His-Story of a person.

It now makes sense.
Why was I writing to her constantly referring to her as a 'Superhero'? Why was I interested in her father and her up bringing?

It is true that the hole I was feeling was one of love. I had a piece of me missing which she had whole. It was one of the love for MY father.

I am grateful for her honesty.

I now realize I was blinding myself to the truth - that I was loving and losing when the truth is that the true love adds and completes another.

My father had tried and lost, it would seem, dearly.
As his son, I feel it missing from me too, only it is for him.

It is about time I make it right.

We suck

Arabs.

Any visitor to Ibn Batuta mall in Dubai can witness (on display) testaments to Arab ingenuity and pioneering work across the spectrum of sciences.

Let's talk about now.

A while from now, I was invited to Malta for a friend's wedding (and to sneak in a few Open Water dives).

I will spare you the disheartening and demoralizing tales, and will sum up with this:

If you are indeed an Arab (a good, honest to God respectful one) I suggest you visit Malta - a beautiful place full of wonderful people. I would ask you to try your best to stop those ignorant %@$&@#*s from spreading their damned filth and shitting on the reputation of Arabs. (I expect Bahrainis would be able to easily relate)

If you are an Arab, who would like to see the sites of Malta but be left to yourselves without prejudice, I suggest you learn to say "Lo siento, yo no quiero hablar en Arabe" (Please pardon the grammar)

It was during the Prophet محمد's time the Arabs were considered the pinnacle of word smith-ing in all its forms (poetry, المدح و الغزل... etc).

They were people who molded few words to profound effects.

What have we done to the language when guests of our lands are annoyed (and even joke) with a profound phrase such as "ان شاء الله" and understand it to mean "No chance in Hell"?

How did we become a people of wasted words, false ideals, and characters as weak as The Simpsons' chances of aging?

It makes me quite grateful that I am considered "عجمي".

Shawarmas - The Middle Eastern solution to 'Pizza issues'

I love pizza. The idea of a meal which comes ready to eat (direct, hands-on, without cutlery and serviettes) is greatly appealing. If prepared well pizzas taste good (and it is not difficult to); tomato sauce and purée, a good tasty blend of cheese along with your choice of topping and you are set.

It is unfortunate that this tastily complimenting combination comes with some 'issues'...

1) Health concerns.
Cheese is cheese. As good as "curds and whey" taste, there is only so much a person can take.

2) Time.
The standard set in US films of late is usually 45 minutes (pizza delivered) or your pizza is free. Pizza from a pizza place (depending on traffic) could be as little as 15 to 20 minutes.
Not bad - but if hunger is gnawing at your insides it is still 15 to 20 minutes.

3) Cost.
On average pizzas are usually found within the mid ranges of restaurant menus (Depending mainly on preparation and topping). This means that you would not only pay for your pizza, but due to the thought process involved with toppings and ideas you are also spending neural energy as well as time.

Ladies and gentleman, I am please to present the alternative; the Shawarma:
A tastily packed roll-up of a selection of meats (usually chicken or beef), veg, and sauce. Prepared within 5 minutes for an average price of 300 fils (BD 0.300), the shawarma is a must-try for anyone within the reach.

Our quests for 'The Ultimate Shawarma' in Bahrain have introduced us to new breads, sauce combinations, and methods of meat preparation.

Though not much service involved, the mere whiff of a shawarma stand means you are not far from a feeding hub for both locals out for a night-time (hearty) snack and long distance drivers out for a tasty hunger quencher.

Though shawarma stands quality service usually means an extra chips and more meat in your meal, there is a certain heart warming ambiance in waiting for 5 minutes in the outside. Well worth it if you have good company or the desire to engage is idle banter.

From local shops to shopping mall stands - Shawarma, is an ideal (afternoon to midnight) belly-pleaser, taste-bud-teaser, and hunger-cease-er.

Quip

In His name

A while back I approached a religious figure with a question:
Are the free-from-wrong Imams (الأءمة المعصومين) so called because they did not err, or was it that they did but were noble in behaviour that immediately corrected what had befallen and thus turned wrong into right?

It was only after I had asked the question and recieved an answer that I realised that I disagreed with what I had heard.

I now worry that (As Derren Brown wrote in his book 'Tricks of the Mind') people who do not know may sometimes resort to embellishing. Incorrectly veiwed as a compliment I worry that it inforces false ideals and values.

It affirms my resolve that truth is truth and anything else would detract much from the power of His Truth.
